New game plus lets you keep your map progress, health upgrades, and items collected so you can spend more playthroughs finding what you missed and perfecting your run. The game length isnвЂ™t particularly long, but I was able to spend six hours on a single playthrough. Either way, I donвЂ™t think itвЂ™s severe enough to let that stop you from playing this game.

IвЂ™m not sure if itвЂ™s related to my OS, which is Windows 10, or if this is a common issue. Sometimes it was due to my controller disconnecting, but in other instances, the game would just crash for no reason IвЂ™m aware of. As far as negatives go, unfortunately, IвЂ™ve had many instances of the game crashing. The story is relatively simple, and most of the dialogue is optional, depending on whether or not you chose to talk to NPCs, but it gets the job done and never gets in way of the gameplay. Bosses will drop exclusive items if you beat them without taking damage, which encourages mastering their encounters. Of course, the gameвЂ™s difficulty changes depending on how many health upgrades youвЂ™ve collected as well as how many healing items youвЂ™re carrying. Luckily, a white or red ring will appear from enemies whenever theyвЂ™re about to attack, although that isnвЂ™t always indicative of how long after the ring the attack will commence, or what the attack is even going to be. There are also instances where you can become poisoned or cursed, which drains your health and disables your items, respectively. If youвЂ™re not careful, you may find yourself overwhelmed by baddies, fall onto spikes, or get bodied by boss attacks. The game isnвЂ™t particularly hard, but it does provide a good challenge. Finally, there is a plethora of health upgrades to find and ivory bugs to collect, the latter of which can be traded for goodies. You can also equip items which add passive abilities that alter the properties of the protagonist and her weapons. Hitting the save bell will restock your inventory of these, another Dark Souls convention. There arenвЂ™t any weapons to find and equip, and this game is devoid of RPG elements, but you can find and purchase consumables that may heal you, temporarily increase your attack power, or cast an offensive spell. ItвЂ™s a great way of picking off foes while keeping a safe distance. The longer you hold the bumper, the more arrows that will be shot. You can shoot arrows with the left bumper. Rolling around to get behind an adversary adds depth to combat, and just feels good to do in general. Striking enemy projectiles will knock them back or destroy them, but they will not deal damage to baddies, unfortunately. You can just feel the weight of your blows, and hitting foes causes an incredibly satisfying screen-shake. Fighting is purposeful and methodical, akin to Dark Souls or Monster Hunter. Bombservice absolutely nailed the game feel. RUtM is a Metroidvania, giving you a decent-sized map with secrets to find, upgrades to collect, and a variety of different environments to admire.

From the imp-inhabited forests to the trap-laden, fiery depths, RUtM conveys feelings ranging from calming serenity and gut-wrenching despair. The sprite work here is absolutely gorgeous, and the music compliments it fantastically. But donвЂ™t take that to mean this is just some shallow imitator, As Momodora more than proves that itвЂ™s a master of its craft!ДЇirst off, let me just say that this game is beautiful. If you follow the indie game scene at all, chances are youвЂ™ve heard phrases such as вЂњinspired by Dark SoulsвЂќ or вЂњwith elements from Dark Souls.вЂќ If thereвЂ™s any game any more deserving of that description, itвЂ™s Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, the fourth game in the Momodora series.
